Day 21 of UBC – The Liebster Award

liebsteraward4

Chef William Chaney of http://healthyfoodanddiet.com nominated me for the Liebster award.  I’m honored to have been nominated by Chef William and in gratitude for his support, I accept.  However, I do really want to know who thought it was a good idea to make this award so much work to accept.

In order to accept the award the following requirements are placed on the recipient:

When you are nominated for the award:

You post eleven random facts about yourself

You answer eleven questions from the person who nominated you, and

Then you pass the award onto eleven other blogs (making sure that you tell them you nominated them) and ask them eleven questions.

Here are the 11 random facts about myself:

I was born blond – go ahead, I dare you to make a blond joke.

I really do not like cauliflower or broccoli.

I still love to rock out to Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

Scary movies are my favorite (I don’t mean gory movies though)

Moving to New Mexico is a possibility in the future.

Traveling used to be a favorite past-time, now not so much.

I am CERT certified (Community Emergency Response Training) and on the emergency disaster planning committee and Community Resilience Coalition in my town.

The top two shows on my list of lifetime favorites are the original The Twilight Zone and The X-Files.

I love Asian food best, especially Chinese and Thai.

I once lived on a property with a 15 acre lake and had the job of rowing to the island in the lake to collect the eggs from ducks, geese and other birds that frequented there.

And last, but not least, I really, really do not like chicken (I do eat though – but ugh).

Now for a few questions from Chef William in order to obtain the award:

1.      What one Food Item that you have eaten but will never eat again and why?

Octopus.  It was mushy and I really dislike the consistency.

2.      What is the one food Item that is on your “must have’ list and why?

Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia Ice Cream.  Just because it is so yummy and I love ice cream.  But knowing Chef William, he intended something more healthy and because he nominated me for this award I’d have to say pumpkin because it is healthy, yummy and very versatile.  How many other foods can you turn into soup, casserole, pudding, pie and the best “brownies” I ever ate?

3.      Where would you like to live, if you could live anywhere in the world, and what makes it special?

Eastern New Mexico, either Santa Fe or Taos, because I feel connected to the place.

4.      What is one food item that you would have removed from school lunches if you had the power?

Hm, I’m not sure.  I usually brought lunch from home and can’t really remember that far back.

5.      What is one thing that you do that is the most important to your overall good health?

Eat as healthy as I can.  Well, except for the Cherry Garcia Ice Cream and coconut cake.

6.      What is the name of the last non-fiction book you read and how long ago did you read it?

I completed Kiss the Mirror Raising Humanity in the Twenty-first Century by Mama Marlaine Cover.  It’s an awesome book right up my alley about transforming the way we think about raising children and teaching them the life skills they require using third party educators.

 7.      What is your favorite outdoors exercise?

I used to climb mountains and belay down them again.  Now I’m happy to just  be walking outside.  I also love swimming.

8.      Are you concerned about GMO’s in our foods and why or why not?

Yes I am concerned about GMO’s, mainly because no one really knows what the impact of this will be further down the line and I’d rather not be experimented on.

9.      What is one recipe that you would like to add to your collection but have not been able to find anywhere?

The Cheese Cake Factory’s recipe for Hungarian Goulash.  They no longer make it but continue to refuse to share the recipe.

10.  Do you have a bucket list and if so, how many items are on it and how many have you been able to cross off as completed, in the last two years?

I don’t have a formal bucket list.  There are a few places I’d like to travel, but I’ve managed to do most of the things I really wanted to do in life.

11.  We should all have our “15 minutes of fame” have you had your yet and if so, when and what was it?

I don’t recall anything that I would consider being my 15 minutes of fame.  It doesn’t feel like it’s missing either or that it’s something I want.

Here are the blogs and bloggers that I am nominating:

1.      Jane Boyd Moughon  http://www.managingthenewgeneration.com

2.      Kaye Dennan               http://homebusinesssuccessideas.com

10.   What makes you happiest about your business?

11.  What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

I apologize in advance to all my nominees for the work involved in accepting this award.  It is a lot of fun though.  And the Liebster Award, to my way of thinking, is about loving your blog and it being a favorite.  The German word Liebs means love or of love and the word liebste, again in German, means favorite.  So to my nominees, I love your blogs and they are among my favorites.

That is one of the challenges Gordon :-). Good luck.

Cher - April 21, 2013

Thanks so much Julia, so how do we answer these questions, does it have to go on our blog?

I put it on my blog but made the page uncategorized and didn’t use any key words except for my name. It provides an extra post for the challenge. And you are not obligated to accept it Cher. It can be a lot of work to find blogs that don’t already have it from this challenge.

Kaye Dennan - April 22, 2013

Thanks for the nomination Julia. It does look a lot of fun. I don’t write a lot of personal info on my blog so this will add that little bit extra. Will get to it and let you know when it is finished. 🙂

You’re welcome Kaye. It’s nice to get to know someone on a more personal level. I always prefer to do business with someone I know even a little bit as opposed to not at all. It is a process to accept this award – take your time.

Tamsin - April 23, 2013
