12 Things that Successfully Convert a Great Idea into a Reality

I found this great info graphic to share with you.  I may have to put this into my next book.

Have you had an “aha” moment or a million dollar idea that you wish to build a business with?  This great infographic illustrates 12 things that must have to make that a reality.  The very first thing is to have belief and confidence in your thought as well as actions.  If you don’t believe in yourself or your idea, who else will?

Secondly, build your dream team.  These will be experts or people who have the experience of building a business that can help you with great advice.  I can’t stress the importance of having mentors and coaches to help you along the way.  All twelve of the steps outlined on this infographic are essential.

Additionally, if you wish to excel as an entrepreneur then you should follow the 5 golden rules which include being inquisitive and asking questions, taking massive action on the solutions you identify, setting up targets that are achievable within a given time frame (goals people, this means setting goals), maintaining a pool of creative inner circle and looking after the vision, mission and values of your organization.

Commit to memory each of the ten mistakes this graphic indicates that can shatter your business and end your dream.  Learn them and then do not make any of these blunders!

I hope you enjoy this graphic.  Do you see anything here you may not have known already?

The Six Enemies of Greatness (and Happiness)

Today I want to share a post that was originally published on the Forbes.com blog in 2012 and was written by Jessica Hagy.  It is so simple and to the point and makes a lot of sense.  I wish I had written it, but at least I can share it with you.

These six factors can erode the grandest of plans and the noblest of intentions. They can turn visionaries into paper-pushers and wide-eyed dreamers into shivering, weeping balls of regret. Beware!

1 Availability

1) Availability

We often settle for what’s available, and what’s available isn’t always great. “Because it was there,” is an okay reason to climb a mountain, but not a very good reason to take a job or a free sample at the supermarket.

2 Ignorance

2) Ignorance

If we don’t know how to make something great, we simply won’t. If we don’t know that greatness is possible, we won’t bother attempting it. All too often, we literally do not know any better than good enough.

3 Committees

3) Committees

Nothing destroys a good idea faster than a mandatory consensus. The lowest common denominator is never a high standard.

4

4) Comfort

Why pursue greatness when you’ve already got 324 channels and a recliner? Pass the dip and forget about your grand designs.

5 Momentum

5) Momentum

If you’ve been doing what you’re doing for years and it’s not-so-great, you are in a rut. Many people refer to these ruts as careers.

6 Passivity

6) Passivity

There’s a difference between being agreeable and agreeing to everything. Trust the little internal voice that tells you, “this is a bad idea.”

Empower Yourself for Success with the Power Pose

Body language affects how others see us, and it can also change how we see ourselves.  Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.

I had an important sales meeting recently and watched this video and practiced the power pose and I can tell you that I felt ready for that presentation and really rocked it.

Amy Cuddy’s strategy can be applied in almost any situation in your life or business or where you need to increase your confidence and have a power boost.  Try this next time you have to give a talk or a presentation and see if it doesn’t work for you like it worked for me.

Search for Your Passion by Asking Yourself These Ten Questions

passion3Yesterday we looked at why it is important to build your business around your passion.  It’s this passion for your work that is your rudder and provides the motivation to keep moving forward.

Here are ten questions to start you on your passion quest. If money were not an object, what would you do all day long?

Is there anything that makes you feel really good while you do it?

What activities are you doing when the hours just fly by?

How could you help other people by doing what you love?

What contribution are you here to make?

What difference do you feel you were put on the planet to make?

What specific group of people (niche) can your passion serve?

How will you make your mark in the world?

 What will your legacy be?

Were you able to answer all the ten questions?  Do they give you any insights as to what you are passionate about that you can create a business with?

Not Having Passion in Your Business – The Third Mistake that Blocks Success

Passion2Passion is an important asset in business.  It is the fuel that keeps the fire burning, it is a great motivator and the energy that gets you out of bed in the morning.

Passion creates momentum.

People find it very difficult to say no to passion.  Clients, prospects, and employees will all sense your passion and want to be a part of it.  Passion is contagious.

In my own experience, when the agency I worked for went bankrupt and I was unemployed, I decided that I never wanted to work for someone else ever again.  It was my time to shine and build something for myself.  I thought it would be easy to take the cumulative experience of my many years of working with youth to develop a business.  I worked hard at learning how and then structuring the business using what I know.

After a while, I discovered that I was creating all sorts of road blocks for myself.  When I stopped to analyze why that was happening, I realized that I wasn’t really excited about recreating my job as an entrepreneurial business.  I love my work, but there was a lot about the job that I didn’t like at all.

I thought long and hard about what part of my job I really loved and when I hit on the answer to that, my whole being changed and I felt energized and excited about moving forward.  Now when I talk to people about what I do, they almost always remark about the passion they feel I have for my work.

If you are just starting out or have been trying to get your business up and running for awhile, it might serve you well to take some time and figure out if you love what you are doing.  If not, try to focus in on the aspects of your work that you love and build your business around that.  You’ll find satisfaction and success a lot faster that way.

Not Getting Clear – The Second Mistake in Business that Blocks Success

ClarityThe second most common mistake new solopreneurs and small business owners make is not having clarity around various aspects of their business.  Without having a clear vision of who, what, where and when regarding your business, you will most likely spend a lot of time marketing and trying to get your message out and not attracting the people you should be targeting.

It’s fairly easy to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit.  Having a clear, distinct, mapped out path is the hard part.  At times you may feel as if you are not disciplined.  More times than not, it is an uncertainty on your destination.  If you did know where you were going, you probably would know what you had to get done.  If you do not know where you are going, no road will get you there.  Ask yourself, what can I do better than anyone in the world?

Define what you want with absolute clarity – You must know what you want before you can go after it. More than just wanting a goal or ideal you must want and accept the feelings, emotions, thoughts, freedom and/or obligations that will certainly accompany your goals.  Begin to think about why you want this thing, what it will mean to you.

  • What will meeting this goal look like, feel like, and how will it change
    your life?
  • Do you know what it will take to meet this objective?
  • What are the costs?

Many times people want something but only think about the good things that will come from having attaining it.  You must be very honest about the sacrifice and hard work that will be required to attain this goal.  Without question everything worthwhile will require sacrifice.

Take the time in your business to define your goals, to create a visual of your end result, to identify your target market and more.

Brian Tracy, one of the world’s leading authorities on personal and business success says this about clarity, “Clarity – Eighty percent of success comes from being clear on who you are, what you believe in and what you don’t.”

Are you clear on what’s at the end of your road?

The First Mistake Business Owners Make That Block Success

http://www.dreamstime.com/-image26390051Whether you are new in business, or have been working at your business for a while and not being as successful as you want, you might be making one or all of these three mistakes.

1.     Not getting real

2.     Not being clear

3.     Not having passion

I will write about these over the next few days because making just one of these mistakes can prevent you from earning the money in business that you want and deserve.

The first, and one of the easiest mistakes to make is not “getting real” with yourself.  In order to do this you have to do a deep analysis of your feelings, thoughts and situations in your life.  You need to assess your strengths, your weaknesses, your interests, your skills and your resources.  You have to understand where the gaps exist between where you are and where you want to be and then take action to change the situations you are dissatisfied with.

Taking stock of your life and giving yourself a “reality check” requires that you be completely honest which is not always easy to do.  However, there is no point in trying to fool yourself into something that isn’t real because in that way, you set yourself up to fail.

The benefit of having a clear picture of what you are feeling about your life is that you can take steps to transform the things that are negative.  It is important to remember, whether you know it or not, believe it or night, it is true that your thoughts create your reality.  The more positive your thoughts are the better chance you have at creating success.

Here are 11 areas in your life for you to consider in your reality check:

My Overall Satisfaction.  What does satisfaction mean?  Do you enjoy getting up in the morning?  Do you enjoy your life?  Do you feel satisfied?  Do you think you deserve to be happy?

My Energy Level.  Are you naturally energetic?  Do you get enough sleep at night?  Do you stay up too late or all night then drink coffee, soda pop, or energy drinks to stay awake?  Do you get high to get through the day?

My Spiritual Connection.  Do you feel connected to a higher power in whatever way you define it (God, Universe, Trusted Source, Spirit)?  Do you have activities in your life that help you stay connected?  What do you do to nurture this connection — hike, spend time in nature, meditate, participate in religious activities, and so on?

My Health.  Are you healthy in mind, body, and spirit or are you ignoring your health?  Do you see a doctor and a dentist when you need to?  And what about your mental health?  Are you feeling good or are you depressed?  Are you angry all of the time?  Do you ask for help when you are feeling depressed or angry or do you just suffer?

My Nutrition.  Do you eat healthy foods or do you stop at the convenience store to get junk food?  Do you drink lots of soda pop and eat at fast food restaurants or do you eat real food like fresh cooked meat, chicken , fish, vegetables, and fruits?

My Exercise.  Do you take the time to exercise on a regular basis or are you more of a couch potato, gaming, watching TV, or texting your friends all day and/or all night long?

My Connection to Family.  What is your relationship with your family?  Do you feel connected to them?  Do you love your family?  Do you feel that your family loves you?

My Connection to Friends.  Do you feel connected to your friends?  Do you love and respect your friends?  Do you feel that your friends love and respect you?

My Integrity.  Integrity means you follow through with what you say you will do with others and with yourself.  Do you keep your agreements with yourself and with others or do you make commitments and not follow through?

My Finances.  Do you save your money and spend it wisely or do you buy things on a whim?  Do you waste money on things you don’t need?  Do you have a bank account?  If you have a bank

account, do you know how to manage it?

My Contribution to the World.  Are you helping others or are you only out for yourself?

When you complete these categories, you can begin to assess your business to find out where you are and are not in alignment with the other areas of your life.  Don’t forget to assess for your skills in business to see where your strengths are and where you might need some assistance.

Don’t underestimate the power of performing a reality check.  I believe it is an essential step in getting prepared to create a successful business.

If you are interested, I have created a program called, 3 Step Reality Check to discover what prevents you from building your successful life or dream business and how to break through to success!

It includes an audio guide with the 3 Step Reality Check that leads you through an honest assessment of whether you feel good or not about various areas in your life.  These assessments will reveal the gaps between where you are now and where you want to be.  You can find it here: http://julianeiman.com/3-step-reality-check/

Leverage Bigger Profits with a Charitable Mission

Having a big mission interwoven with your financial goals also provides a more profound “why” for what you’re doing in business. It gets your team, customers and community involved, helping your bottom line grow faster than it would have if you were on your own.”  Yanik Silver, YoungEntrepreneur.com

Leverage CharityHaving a greater mission and building your business around that mission brings deeper levels of satisfaction to your work and a stronger potential for bigger profits.  It allows for passion which I believe is an essential element of a successful business and life.  Your mission should reflect the “why” you are in business.

My why is that I believe that every young person deserves to have big dreams and the opportunity to make those dreams come true.

My business was conceived by my desire to help teens and young adults become economically self-sufficient.  I found a program online that I enrolled in to learn how to build an internet business and realized somewhere in the middle of this program that this is what I wanted my youth-centered business to be.  With the approval and partnership with the creator of that program, The Monetize Your Passion Blueprint: Empowering Young Entrepreneurs program was born.

The program trains coaches, teachers, life skills professional and other service providers who work with teens and young adults to teach them entrepreneurial core values, habits and business skills.  The charitable element of this mission is to provide training at no cost to volunteers who work with homeless youth to help those kids start a business and get off the streets and transform their lives.  We have also donated the program to a group who works with young women in Uganda and as a pre-release program for young people coming out of prison.  Additionally, we have set aside a few scholarships for each course for qualified clients who have a similar mission and are not able to afford the program.

The internet allows you to be more creative with your business and have a wider reach and when you are passionate about what you do, you don’t actually talk business, you share your passion.  I love talking with people in Australia, England, South Africa, Rwanda, and all across America about my passionate mission.

The current trend in entrepreneurial business is to break down the barriers between work and lifestyle and value-boosting activities.  A business can leverage charitable causes at the same time it boosts business.  The bottom line is that the more impact you create, the more joy and happiness you create, the more profits you’ll generate.
